Author-Poet to Read Published Works April 3

Author and poet Dr. Jennifer Maritza McCauley will visit UToledo for a reading and book signing sponsored by the Department of English Language and Literature on Wednesday, April 3, in Savage and Associates Business Learning Complex Room 1200.

McCauley will give a reading and participate in a Q&A from 6 to 7 p.m. Her reading will be followed by a reception and book signing from 7 to 8 p.m.

McCauley is a writer, poet and an assistant professor of literature and creative writing at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. Her short story collection and most recent publication, “When Trying to Return Home,” was an Editors’ Choice by The New York Times and considered a best book of the month by Kirkus Reviews, Ms. Magazine and The Southern Review of Books, and one of the “Best Books to Read in 2023” by Today.

She is also the author of one published poetry collection, “SCAR ON/SCAR OFF,” which won an Independent Publishers’ Book Award, and has another poetry collection forthcoming.

McCauley was awarded fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, Kimbilio, CantoMundo and the Sundress Academy for the Arts, she has a master of fine arts from Florida International University and a Ph.D. in creative writing and literature from the University of Missouri.
