The University of Toledo has implemented a new Remote Work policy that encourages on-campus representation and limits teleworking opportunities.

The new Remote Work policy replaces the previous Flexible Work policy. The new policy does not allow for hybrid or partial remote work arrangements. Limited departments and job classifications will be authorized to work 100% remote as deemed necessary for the efficient operation of the University.

UToledo’s policy update is aligned with return-to-work changes at the federal and state levels. Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine issued an executive order for Ohio employees to return to state offices effective March 17.

“We are a people-centered organization and understand the need for work-life balance, but our top priority needs to be serving our students and patients. We can do that best when we are on campus,” UToledo Interim President Matt Schroeder said.

A new UToledo Human Resources website has been created to provide additional guidance regarding the University’s new remote work policy and practices. Those individuals who are authorized to work 100% remote will need to complete a remote work agreement.

Employees who previously had a flexible work arrangement are expected to return to campus effective Monday, May 5. Individuals with extenuating circumstances can connect with their supervisor to request an extension to Monday, June 1, which would require approval from a member of the President’s cabinet.
