Blackboard is scheduled to receive an updated user interface known as “Ultra Base Navigation” on May 11.
The update will not impact courses in Blackboard but will change how users navigate the Blackboard environment, with features that include:

• A modernized navigation menu;
• Improved notifications for important course events;
• Easier access to grades;
• Improved accessibility and usability;
• Fewer clicks while navigating;
• Enhanced student engagement; and
• A better mobile experience.
Blackboard has been developing its “Ultra” experience for several years, and the new user interface will receive more feature updates and innovations as the “original” Blackboard experience begins to phase out.
UToledo Online has been monitoring the development of Ultra over the past several years as well as its implementation at other institutions. The decision was made that now is the right time for UToledo to transition to the new Blackboard Ultra environment.
