In an e-mail to faculty and staff, President Lloyd Jacobs announced the decisions and expressed his gratitude to Dr. William McMillen, interim provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, and William Logie, chief transition officer, and vice president for human resources and campus safety, for having “served this institution with honor and dedication.”

McMillen will retire Dec. 31, and Logie will retire June 30.

Jacobs noted that “Dr. McMillen has provided tremendous leadership during this transitional period, in particular with the creation of three new colleges and combining the Judith Herb College of Education and the College of Health Science and Human Service. He has been a key figure in higher education in the Toledo area since his arrival in 1982,” adding that McMillen was “the first ‘joint’ employee of The University of Toledo and The Medical University of Ohio, serving as vice president for government relations for both entities and playing a critical role in navigating the legislative process that ultimately led to the merger.“

Logie also received accolades from Jacobs, who wrote that he “deserves great credit for the success of the merger and the transition, having helped to re-engineer the administration throughout the last five years.”

Jacobs further described Logie as “a close adviser and confidant, leading several major University restructuring efforts, his success in which was built on a track record of achievements in contract negotiations, merging human resources operations, merging police forces, and serving with distinction as interim senior vice president for finance and administration.”

“This is a truly a great University,” McMillen said. “I’ve enjoyed each and every day of my career. Together, we have accomplished something incredible. I look forward to seeing The University of Toledo’s continued evolution.”

“The last five years have been some of the most rewarding of my career,” Logie said. “I’m honored to have worked with such incredible people to help create something that will have a positive impact locally and globally for years to come. Thank you for such a rewarding experience.”

Both men have expressed a willingness to assist with any transitions.
