Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur visited The University of Toledo Medical Center on Monday, going on a tour that included stops at the Kobaker Center, the Eleanor N. Dana Cancer Center and the hospital’s recently opened surgical intensive care unit.

Ohio Department of Higher Education Chancellor Randy Gardner and Lori Criss, director of the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, also took part in the tour.

The visit served to highlight recent investments at UTMC, as well as potential growth opportunities, including in behavioral health.

DeWine and Kaptur played an instrumental role in supporting UTMC’s application to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to receive a higher reimbursement rate from Medicaid. The application, which was approved early last year, generates an additional $25 million in annual funding to the hospital.
