Rockets Lend a Hand on 419 Day

Nearly 100 student-athletes, coaches and staff from the University of Toledo Athletic Department lent a helping hand to the Toledo community by volunteering their time on Friday, April 19, better known locally as “419 Day.”

The Rockets collaborated with Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful to help clean up six locations throughout the city of Toledo.

Nearly 100 student-athletes, coaches and staff from the UToledo Athletic Department volunteered their time with Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful on Friday, 419 Day, to help clean up six locations throughout the city of Toledo.

“From the downtown revitalization to the booming local business community, the city of Toledo and the Northwest Ohio community is our competitive advantage,” said UT Vice President and Director of Athletics Bryan B. Blair. “That is why we are so bullish on #TeamToledo, as the community, University and Toledo Athletics pull together to empower our collective dreams and aspirations.

“419 Day is a great day to celebrate our region and for our Athletics staff to give back to the community that gives us so much. We are grateful to call the 419 home and excited about what the future holds.”

419 Day takes its name from the area code 419 that is commonly used in the Toledo area. In recent years, it has been marked as an unofficial holiday in the Toledo area to celebrate and support our community. This is the second year that Toledo Athletics has participated in community activities on 419 Day.

Nearly 100 student-athletes, coaches and staff from the UToledo Athletic Department lent a helping hand to the community on April 19 by volunteering their time with Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful to help clean up six locations throughout the city of Toledo.“Today, we came together to give back and clean up the community just a few days before Earth Day, with an organization that helps keep our green spaces beautiful,” said Director of Student-Athlete Development Traci Korte. “We collaborated with Executive Director Adam Cassi and Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful to make an impact by picking up litter in six different areas around the city of Toledo. Our student-athletes, coaching staff and administrative teams showed up to make a difference and celebrate 419 Day together.

“Being a part of a day like this reminds everyone that we are part of something bigger – and we are proud to be #TeamToledo.”

Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful is a local non-profit organization that dedicated to improving recycling, litter prevention and neighborhood beautification. Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful provides educational outreach programs to all sectors of the community as well as implements programs involving litter prevention and collection, improving recycling habits, waste reduction and minimizing the impact of waste.
