The University of Toledo Rocketry Club has begun its countdown to liftoff with the 2025 NASA Student Launch Challenge in Huntsville, Alabama.

Lucas Paskey, an electrical engineering senior and president of the Rocketry Club, joined teammates in painting the fiberglass frame of their rocket — named Hyperion — in the parking lot of the North Engineering Building on Thursday, April 24.

The midnight blue and gold paint job is among the final items on the team’s to-do list before they hit the road for the NASA Student Launch Challenge on Wednesday, April 30.

The NASA Student Launch Challenge, which culminates on Sunday, May 4, tasks student teams from across the country with designing, building, testing and launching a high-powered rocket and scientific payload.

The UToledo Rocketry Club has been working on their rocket since September.
