The UT Medical Center opened a new patient unit, ED-Admission Transition Unit, Friday to respond to the high patient volume.

This unit is a comfortable transition area in the hospital for patients who have arrived in the Emergency Department and need to be admitted for further evaluation or treatment.

“We are experiencing unprecedented volumes in the hospital,” said Hollis Hamilton, director of nursing service administration. “Opening this fifth floor unit helps us to make patients as comfortable and safe as possible until we are able to move them to their destination unit.”

The ED-Admission Transition Unit will remain open as long as UTMC’s high inpatient census requires it.

The unit includes UTMC Rooms 5176 through 5181.

The nurses’ station can be reached at 419.383.4951.
