Sathika Ruenreong earned Mid-American Freshman of the Year and Toledo tied for second place Sunday as the Rockets’ 2012-13 campaign came to an end at the MAC Championship at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.

Toledo tied Eastern Michigan for second place at 73-over par 937, 28 strokes behind Kent State, which captured the conference title for the 15th straight year. It matched the Rockets’ best finish ever at the MAC Championship as well as UT’s third top three MAC showing in the last four years
“I’m extremely proud of the way we competed, especially with the amount of rain that fell,” Head Coach Nicole Hollingsworth said. “We didn’t play up to our potential in the first two rounds, but we finished our season strong and ended up tying for second place. This been a tremendous season, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for our program.”
Ruenreong, who helped the Rockets match the Golden Flashes with the best team score of the day at 20-over par 308, also became the first UT women’s golfer to earn first-team All-MAC accolades since 2006 and earned a spot on the all-tournament team.
Joining Ruenreong on the All-MAC squad was junior Kate Hoops, who tied for 18th place at 23-over par 239 (82-78-79).
“Sathika and Kate both are very deserving of All-MAC honors,” Hollingsworth said. “Sathika started the fall a little slow but once she became adjusted to college golf, she never looked back and had a great year. Kate possesses a lot of talent, and things are really starting to click for her after a lot of hard work.”
Sophomore Jennifer Elsholz posted Toledo’s second-best showing by finishing alone in 14th place at 20-over par 236 (79-80-77).
Rounding out the Rocket lineup were freshman Manisa Isavas (tied for 22nd with78-84-79=241) and senior Allison Schultz (37th with 78-84-87=249).
