Leaders Announce Investment in Educator Academy

During the Aspiring Young Educators conference Tuesday organized by Toledo Public Schools at The University of Toledo, education leaders announced an investment in training future teachers in the community.

The annual conference introduces students in grades 5-8 to various careers in the field of education.

TPS Superintendent Romules Durant and UToledo Interim President Matt Schroeder joined the conference to discuss plans for the Brady Educator and Social Services Academy, a new TPS school at the new Scott Park Campus focused on training future educators in grades 7-9, initially, when it opens in fall 2026.

During the Aspiring Young Educators conference Tuesday organized by Toledo Public Schools at The University of Toledo, education leaders including TPS Superintendent Romules Durant announced an investment in training future teachers in the community.

As announced Tuesday, the new academy will be supported by a $1 million gift from Tom and Betsy Brady. Tom Brady is the founder, chair and CEO of Plastic Technologies Inc. He also is a former member of the UToledo Board of Trustees and former interim dean of the Judith Herb College of Education.

TPS Board President Bob Vasquez and Owens Community College President Dionne Somerville joined the announcement.

UToledo is a partner with TPS on its initiative to renovate Scott Park to host the educator academy, as well as an additional business academy and a construction and architectural design academy.
