Graduate student Laura Nicholson, freshman Mercy Kinyanjui and freshman Nora Hark have each earned All-MAC honors, the Mid-American Conference office recently announced. Nicholson and Kinyanjui were named First-Team All-MAC, while Hark was a Second-Team All-MAC honoree.
The three selections follow the trio capturing a combined five individual medals (four gold, one silver) and 48 points the MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in DeKalb, Illinois.
Nicholson won the 1500m (4:23.32) and the 800m (2:07.83), running the events just two hours apart. She hit a personal-best time in the 800m, which ranks second in program history.
Kinyanjui won the 10,000m in 34:29.19, pulling clear of her competition by 8.81 seconds with a final lap time of 1:06.64. She followed that performance with a 16:32.01 time in the 5000m, once again pulling ahead in a 1:12.97 final lap time to win by 4.90 seconds. Kinyanjui’s performance earned her the MAC Women’s Freshman Track Performer of the Year recognition, the first time Toledo has earned a Freshman of the Year recognition since Emily Vining (track) did so in 2021.
Hark took the silver medal in the javelin with a long throw of 40.24m. This came on her sixth and final attempt and moved her up from fifth to second in the standings.
Toledo is now focused on the NCAA East Prelims, which runs through Saturday in Lexington, Kentucky.
