A national search is already underway for the permanent position.
Hall most recently served as associate vice president for research and sponsored programs and research integrity officer. A neuroscientist who has published extensively on the genetic and environmental determinants of susceptibility to addiction and related psychiatric disorders, he joined the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences as faculty in the Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics in 2014 and the College of Medicine and Life Sciences as affiliated faculty in the Department of Neurosciences and Psychiatry in 2022.

Hall holds a doctorate in neurobiology from Cambridge University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Harvard University.
“As a researcher, I believe in the importance of research universities for our community, our country and our society,” Hall said. “As interim vice president for research and sponsored programs, I aim to help all of our great scholars and researchers at UToledo in their endeavors to expand human understanding of our world and to create new technology that will improve the health and wellbeing of our citizens, promote a vibrant and growing local and national economy, and preserve the values and ideals of our nation.”
Schaller
Janelle Schaller has been named interim vice president and general counsel following the recent departure of Charles Jake.
A national search is expected to begin shortly for the permanent position.
Schaller has advanced through UToledo’s Office of Legal Affairs since 2008, when she joined the office as associate general counsel. She previously worked as an associate attorney in the local law firm Cooper & Walinski.
Schaller holds a juris doctor from the University of Cincinnati and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Bowling Green State University.
“I’m proud to have spent the majority of my career at UToledo, and I’m looking forward to this next chapter as the interim leader of the Office of Legal Affairs,” Schaller said. “Our talented team of attorneys is a valuable resource as we navigate a time of transition both across the higher education landscape and on our own campus as we welcome new leaders.”
