Five members of the Toledo softball team were recognized for their athletic and academic accomplishments this season by earning a spot on the 2024 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team. Eli Enriquez, Lauren Erickson, Sidney Griffith, Riley Mohr and Kendra VanderLugt were each honored by the organization.
Erickson and Mohr are receiving an Academic All-District distinction for a second time, while Enriquez, Griffith and VanderLugt are being honored for the first time. It is the first time five Rockets have earned a spot on the CSC Academic All-District Team in one season.
A two-time all-conference honoree, Mohr started all 49 games this season primarily as the Rockets’ first baseman. She led the team with 33 RBIs and was second on the team with 11 doubles and five home runs. She had a season-high three hits with three RBIs at Bowling Green (March 22) and two doubles vs. Kent State (April 6). Mohr ended her UT career ranked fifth in program history with 96 RBIs and eighth with 62 walks. She received her bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Toledo in December 2023 and is working towards a master’s degree.
Erickson graduated earlier this month with a degree in civil engineering and earned a 4.0 GPA in both semesters of the 2023-24 academic year to earn President’s List honors. The senior outfielder appeared in 48 games and ranked second on the team with a .495 SLG%, as well as third with 25 runs scored, 10 doubles and four home runs. Erickson collected three hits, including one home run, two RBIs and three runs scored vs. Ball State in the MAC Tournament. She ended her career ranked ninth in program history with 82 runs scored and tied for 10th with 15 home runs.
Enriquez made an immediate impact in her first season with the Rockets. The shortstop from Sacramento, California, Enriquez led the conference with 34 stolen bases, third-most in a single season for a Rocket, and was second in the league with six triples. She scored a season-high three runs and three stolen bases at Detroit Mercy on April 18. She went 7-for-12 (.583) with one triple, two RBIs, one run scored and one stolen base at the conference tournament to earn MAC All-Tournament honors.
Griffith, who was selected First-Team All-MAC this year, started every game at second base. An Ashtabula native, Griffith ranked second on the team with a season-best .372 batting average, 55 hits, including 10 doubles, 32 runs scored and 11 walks. Griffith had a season-high three hits and three runs scored vs. Kent State (April 6), and three RBIs vs. Montana (March 2) at the Purple Classic in Phoenix.
VanderLugt appeared in 48 games in the outfield this season and led the Rockets with 13 doubles. The Kalamazoo, Michigan, native tied Lacey LeVier’s 2008 single-game record of seven RBIs vs. Princeton (March 8) at the CSF/ LBSU Tournament in Fullerton, California. Most recently, she went 5-for-9 (.556) at the plate with two doubles and scored one run for UT in each game at the MAC Tournament.
The 2024 Academic All-District Softball Team recognized the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performance on the field and in the classroom. Griffith and Mohr now advance to the Academic All-American ballot, voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on Tuesday, June 18. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes nominees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III and NAIA.
