The University of Toledo and Equality Toledo are co-sponsoring a free Pride Prom for area high schoolers from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 10, in Thompson Student Union Auditorium.
Titled Over the Rainbow, the 2023 Pride Youth Prom is for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, non-binary, queer and allied-identified high school and homeschooled students between the ages of 16 and 19 who are graduating no later than summer of 2023.
“We are excited to support Equality Toledo’s first-ever Pride Prom and to start a new tradition of providing a safe and welcoming place for young people to be themselves, connect with community and celebrate who they are,” said Aleiah Jones, associate director of the Office of Multicultural Student Success.
“It is an especially challenging time for LGBTQ+ youth and families in Ohio,” said Joe Wood, chair of the Equality Toledo board of directors. This first-ever Toledo-area Pride Youth Prom offers an inclusive and safe environment for LGBTQ+ youth and allies to dance joyously in community, and Equality Toledo is proud to offer this experience with The University of Toledo.”
Registration, either online or at the door, is required to attend this event with student ID or homeschool confirmation. The event is only for students. Parents and/or guardians are not allowed to enter the prom space.
