The University of Toledo again has been recognized by The Military Times as a top school for supporting military-connected students.

UToledo jumped 15 spots in the Best for Vets 2021 designation to rank No. 65 out of more than 260 four-year institutions nationwide. The University was ranked 80 out of 134 in 2020 and 123 out of 208 in 2019.

“The Military Times: Best for Vets survey has been ranking schools on their services to military-connected students for more than 10 years and is the longest-running and most comprehensive survey concerning military-connected students in higher education,” said Eric Buetikofer, UToledo director of military and veteran affairs.

“It is a great honor to be ranked and I am happy to report that The University of Toledo moved up 15 spots from No. 80 to No. 65 in the country as a Best for Vets institution. We are also the fifth-ranked Ohio institution out of 14 ranked Ohio schools.

“In addition to the overall ranking,” he added, “the Best for Vets survey has ranked us 64th in General Education, 52nd in Public Universities and 13th in the Midwest among other ranked institutions.”

Buetikofer said UToledo’s growing success in the survey reflects the campus community’s ongoing commitment to student veterans.

“I strongly believe our increase in this year’s ranking is due to the hard work of our dedicated administration, faculty and staff in ensuring that, during the pandemic, students were able to continue with their studies while obtaining quality online and remote education,” he said. “The Military Service Center and its staff were instrumental during this time as well in making sure the needs of our military-connected students were being met so that they could be successful in and out of the classroom.”

The rankings are based on the results of Military Times’ annual survey — a school-by-school assessment of veteran and military student services and rates of academic achievement — as well as a detailed review of public data collected by federal agencies.
