“Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” is a hilarious mash-up of themes and characters from Anton Chekhov’s works set in present-day Bucks County, Pennsylvania, but familiarity with the playwright isn’t necessary in this family reunion gone awry.

Jennifer Nagy Lake, Jeffrey Burden and Pamela Tomassetti star in the GlacityTheatre Collective’s production of “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.”

Melancholy turns to mayhem when Vanya and his sister, Sonia — along with their clairvoyant housekeeper, Cassandra — are paid a surprise visit by their glamorous Hollywood sibling, Masha, and her 20-something boy toy, Spike. So begins a hilarious weekend of rivalry, regret and general uproar.

Will Vanya and Sonia ever find happiness? Will Masha sell the Bucks County farmhouse right out from under them? And will Spike ever put his pants on?

The wacky comedy by Christopher Durang won two Tony awards, including the 2013 Award for Best Play.

Directed by Irina Zaurov, UT instructor of theatre and alumna, the cast features Tim Keogh as Vanya, Pamela Tomassetti as Masha, UT alumna Jennifer Nagy Lake as Sonia, and Jeffrey Burden, delivery worker in Distribution Services and UT theatre student, as Spike. Lynnette Bates (Cassandra) and Elizabeth Cottle (Nina) round out the cast.

James S. Hill, UT professor emeritus of theatre, is the scenic/sound designer, Michelle Sullivan is the lighting designer, and Holly Monsos, UT associate dean of the College of Communication and the Arts, is the costume designer.
