The David Leigh Root Bridge, located on Stadium Drive behind the Snyder Memorial Building, is scheduled to reopen Friday, Aug. 5, at 7 a.m.
The new span features UT’s signature lannon stone as well as six-foot-wide sidewalks on both sides of the road.
“The new bridge incorporates aesthetics that blend with the Gothic architecture on campus,” Jason Toth, associate vice president for facilities and construction, said.Replacement of the bridge began in March.
Following routine inspection, it was determined the bridge, built in 1961, needed to be replaced due to age and condition, Toth said.
“We appreciate the patience of the UT community that allowed us to upgrade the bridge and make it safer for vehicles and pedestrians,” Toth said.
