Former Rocket Barend Botha continued his red-hot start to his professional career on the PGA Americas Tour by winning his second-straight tournament with a one-shot victory at the BioSteel Championship. Botha carded a final-round seven-under par 63 to capture the win and has now won two of the three tournaments he has entered. He began the final round one shot out of the lead and finished with a 72-hole total of 26-under par 254 (64-63-64-63) at the par-70, 7,033-yard Ambassador Golf Club.

Botha’s victory also moved him up to No. 4 in the Fortinet Cup points list. The top 10 finishers in the Fortinet standings will earn a 2025 exemption on the Korn Ferry Tour.

A George, South Africa native, Botha registered an eagle on the par-four 15th hole to move into a share of the lead at 25-under. He birdied No. 18 by hitting his approach shot to a foot to claim the win.

“I’m speechless,” Botha said. “I came up 18, looked at the scoreboard, I was like ‘tap in, OK’ … I was like ‘it’s not done yet,’ but the heart was pumping.”

Botha previously secured exempt status for this summer’s North America Swing after earning medalist honors at the PGA TOUR Americas Q-School in early June at the Soboba Spring Golf Course in San Jacinto, Calif.

Botha made his PGA TOUR Americas debut at the Bromont Open presented by Desjardins on July 18-21.

Botha is expected to be in the field in the PGA Tour Americas next event on Aug. 15-18 at the Elk Ridge Saskatchewan Open presented by Lake Country Co-Op, where he will make his fourth start as a professional.

PGA TOUR Americas is an international tour that provides professional golfers with competitive opportunities and prepares them to advance their careers on the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA TOUR. The 2024 schedule consists of 16 events – six in Latin America and 10 in North America – and the inaugural season culminates in September with the Fortinet Cup Championship, where the top-10 players on the season-long points list will earn Korn Ferry Tour membership the following season.
