Hailey Curry, director of Residence Life and Housing Services, recently received the Excellence in Higher Education Leadership Award, one of four annual awards given by The ACE Women’s Network – Ohio to honor and support women working in Ohio’s higher education institutions.

“I believe leadership is a balance between gentleness and tenacity, between authenticity and professional boundaries, between listening and taking action,” Curry said. “Knowing which direction to take at each crossroad comes from a mix of great mentorship and supervision, instinct, education and time; I’m lucky to be in a position to keep learning how to navigate these paths with the best people around me — including my colleagues, direct reports and supervisors. Without them, I would not be a leader deserving of this honor.

“I hope to keep bringing fresh ideas and a tireless work ethic to every table I’m at, all in the best interest of the students and young professionals whom I serve. I’m so humbled by and thankful to my peers for the nomination and grateful to the WNO for selecting me for this honor.”

In addition to the Excellence in Higher Education Leadership Award, the ACE WNO Awards also include the Excellence in Higher Education Research Award, Professional Development Scholarship Award and the Campus Conversations Scholarship Award. Professional women employed by any ACE WNO participating institution are eligible to be nominated.

Danielle Lutman, associate director for the Catharine S. Eberly Center who is the institutional representative for ACE WNO, submitted Curry’s nomination.

“Hailey joined The University of Toledo in January 2023 and has made a huge impact ever since, completely turning around the Department of Residence Life and Housing,” Lutman said. “Hailey has provided steadfast leadership, supporting her staff and students.

“Providing professional development for her staff is a significant strength of hers; Hailey is constantly investing in her staff through providing them with professional development opportunities, encouraging them to present at state and national conferences and providing mentorship whenever she is asked.”
