The recruiting class of The University of Toledo volleyball program has been nationally recognized by PrepVolleyball.com, appearing on the website’s high honorable mention listing of top incoming freshmen.

The ranking is a first in the Rockets’ 35-year volleyball history.

The Rockets have signed eight student-athletes for 2015 — setter Carly Townsend (Germantown, Wis.); outside hitters Machayla Leonard (Normal, Ill.), Haley Sendelbach (Tiffin, Ohio) and Gracey Tuifua (South Jordan, Utah); middle blocker Lynnea Clay (Ada, Ohio); and defensive specialists Maurissa Leonard (Oregon, Ohio), Sarah Ross (Granger, Ind.) and Andrea Stephenson (Caledonia, Mich.).

“We’re very excited to be recognized for the incoming recruits we have joining our program,” Toledo Head Coach Greg Smith said. “This evaluation is compiled from a variety of college coaches around the nation and is a predictor of the classes’ impact not just as freshmen, but their entire collegiate career.”

Toledo began practice for its 2015 campaign Aug. 8 and is opening its season with the Rocket Invitational Friday and Saturday, Aug. 28 and 29, in Savage Arena. UT will face Bradley, Green Bay and Youngstown State during the two-day event.
