Matt Schroeder, who had served as interim president during the University’s presidential search process, has agreed to continue in his executive vice president for finance and administration and chief financial officer role through June 2028.
Bryan Blair, vice president and director of athletics, has extended his contract through June 30, 2030.

And Dr. Frank Calzonetti will extend his tenure as vice president for innovation and economic development until a new vice president for research and sponsored programs is recruited to UToledo this fall semester and then he will serve as a special advisor to the president until February 2026.
“All three of these individuals serve on the president’s cabinet, and I am gratified that they will continue to provide their talents and ideas to The University of Toledo,” said Dr. James Holloway, president of UToledo.
Schroeder first assumed the CFO role in January 2019. He oversees the finance, budget and planning, business insights, facilities and construction, auxiliaries, information technology, human resources, public safety, internal audit, compliance, risk management and Title IX functions of the University.
Schroeder has spent his career serving UToledo, also having served as chief of staff to former UToledo President Sharon Gaber and in several roles for The University of Toledo Foundation, including chief operating officer and vice president of real estate and business development. His connection to the University first began with the former Medical College of Ohio in 1998 as an associate director of development.
Blair
Holloway thanked Schroeder for his service as interim president and his dedication to UToledo.
“There is no more dedicated servant of our University, nor any more fervent supporter of our city,” he said. “I’ve come to know Matt over my first month here at UToledo, and he has impressed me with his deep knowledge, his passion and his ‘doer’ attitude. I want to once again thank Matt for his service as interim president, and I look forward to working with him as our EVP and CFO.”
Blair joined the Rockets in 2022 as the 14th director of athletics for UToledo. Under his leadership the University has won 13 Mid-American Conference championships and became the first FBS school in history to win outright conference titles in football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, women’s cross country, women’s tennis, and men’s tennis in the same academic year in 2022-23. The following year, UToledo swept both the Reese (men’s) and Jacoby (women’s) all-sports trophies for the first time in school history, while securing its third consecutive Cartwright Award as the MAC’s top overall athletics program.
In implementing the “Rise Together” strategic plan, Blair has led strong growth in fundraising, fan experience initiatives, and facilities upgrades and support for student-athletes.
Calzonetti
“Bryan is a strategic thinker who thinks about the whole university even as he focuses his boundless energy on the success of our student-athletes,” Holloway said. “Bryan has helped position athletics as a key activity within our community, both within the University and beyond it. While ensuring that our student-athletes have some of the strongest academic performances in the MAC conference, he has simultaneously led our teams to the top of our conference in athletic prowess.”
Calzonetti joined UToledo in 2000 as vice provost for research. He served as vice president of government relations from 2011 to 2016 before resuming leadership of UToledo’s research enterprise in 2016. In his current role, he supports UToledo’s multiple applications for competitive federal and state resources to support growth in industries in which the University is a leader, such as solar and other clean energy.
