Following the success of The University of Toledo Libraries’ inaugural gallery series, the University Libraries Gallery Series will expand from six shows to eight shows that will be spread across two galleries in Carlson Library.

The first show is Local Artist Exhibit: Life After Life, featuring Steven Athanas, Monday, Aug. 26, through Wednesday, Oct. 16, in the south gallery.

Artwork by local artist Steven Athanas that will be part of his Life After Life exhibit that runs Aug. 26 through Oct. 16 in the south gallery of Carlson Library.

Steven Athanas is featured in the Local Artist Exhibit: Life After Life that runs Aug. 26 through Oct. 16 in the south gallery of Carlson Library.

Originally a stage and musical performer, Athanas moved into the visual arts, allowing his quirky imagination room to roam across various media such as drawing, watercolor, and sculpture with an eye on the quirkiness of the English language. His work, whether 2D or 3D, attempts to let others into his vision of the world, with all its challenges, darkness and smatterings of beauty.

The second show is Hindsight: Past Lives, featuring Ben Morales, Tuesday, Sept. 3, through Friday, Oct. 25, in the north gallery.

Morales is a photographer and art director born and raised in Ohio, and a graduate of Bowling Green State University. His photography strives to unveil the beauty and meaning in the world around us by capturing the natural and manmade environments that most people take for granted. With a love of history and a curiosity for forgotten and overlooked places, he seeks to connect us with the past and challenge our perceptions of the world we inherited.

His book, “Hindsight: Northwest Ohio Through the Lens of Time,” features his well-known photographs of historic Toledo landmarks, seamlessly juxtaposing the past with the present.
