The Office Research and Sponsored Programs is hosting several research mixers through the 2024-25 academic year. The first mixer, Research Mentoring, will be co-sponsored by the Office of Undergraduate Research on Thursday, Sept. 5, at 3 p.m. in the Carlson Library Main Event Space Room 1005.
The mixer will feature a panel of faculty mentors discussing their successes and struggles as well as undergraduate and graduate student mentees discussing how mentors have impacted their research and education.
Faculty on the panel:
• Dr. Rafael Garcia-Mata, a professor and Harold C. and Charlotte L. Shaffer Chair in the Department of Biological Sciences;
• Dr. Todd Crail, a Distinguished University Lecturer in the Department of Environmental Sciences;
• Dr. Wei Li, an associate professor and associate chair in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry; and
• Dr. Michael Young, an associate professor in in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
Students on the panel:
• Emma Elizabeth Sabu Kattuman, a fourth-year Ph.D. student studying molecular medicine in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology;
• Sophia Durham, an undergraduate researcher and 2024 Goldwater Scholar in the Department of Biological Sciences; and
• Victoria Ho, a first-year undergraduate research experience student in the Department of Biological Sciences.
Light desserts and beverages will be served at the mixer.

• October: Evaluations Using AI with Dr. Scott Pappada;
• November: Ohio Humanities with Dr. Melvin Barnes Jr.;
• January: UToledo Foundation staff;
• February: Visually Striking Research with Dr. Eric Zeigler; and
• April: Faculty Fulbright Scholars alumni panel.
