The Military Service Center will be hosting its Eighth Annual 22 Push-Up Challenge on Friday, Sept. 11, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. near the Veterans Memorial Plaza on Main Campus.
The 22 Push-Up Challenge is dedicated to raising awareness about the mental health challenges faced by veterans, with an estimated 22 lives lost to suicide each day. Students, staff and faculty are invited to participate to complete 22 push-ups in solidarity and support for this cause, if they are able.
“This year marks our Eighth Annual 22 Push-Up Challenge, an event we hold to raise awareness of veterans suicide,” said Eric Buetikofer, UToledo director of Military and Veteran Affairs. “We conduct this event in September to coincide with Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. We are asking the greater UToledo community to come out and support our effort to raise awareness of veteran suicide. We know not everyone can perform 22 push-ups. We simply ask that you do as many as you can; we usually have a military-connected student who is willing to finish the push-ups you are unable to.
“If you or any Veteran or military member you know is in crisis, you can contact the Veterans Crisis Line at 988 then press 1 for help.”
