The University of Toledo has been honored by the Department of Defense for its support of National Guard and Reserve Forces.

UToledo was one of 40 employers in Ohio recognized with the Department of Defense’s Above and Beyond award, which is given to employers who exceed the legal requirements of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Act. Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense program, announced the award earlier this month.

“It is an honor for The University of Toledo to receive the Above and Beyond Award from the ESGR,” said Eric Buetikofer, UToledo’s director of military and veteran affairs. “As a military friendly institution, we have always supported and valued our students and employees who continue to serve in the National Guard and Reserve.”

UToledo was the only institution of higher learning honored in the group ESGR highlighted. Buetikofer said it’s gratifying to be recognized for something that’s a clear priority for the University.

“It is important for us as an institution to continue to adapt in order to meet the needs of our service members as they continue to serve in their dual role as citizen soldiers. We are lucky to have these individuals as members of the Rocket community.”
