To celebrate and recognize Muslim Heritage Month, the Muslim Students Association is partnering with the Office of Multicultural Student Association on events throughout October with the theme of community and service.
Events include:
• Friday, Oct. 6, at 6 a.m. — Fajr and Donuts at Pacesetter Park, 8801 Sylvania-Metamora Rd. in Sylvania. Fajr is the morning prayer that Muslims perform every morning before sunrise. To celebrate the kickoff of Muslim Heritage Month, the Muslim Students Association will be having a pre-sunrise Fajr and donuts session with Imam Aly Lela from the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo. Stop by for tea and donuts.
• Friday, Oct. 13, from 6 to 8 p.m.— Culture Night in Thompson Student Union Room 2592. A new event for Muslim Heritage Month, Culture Night will feature food, games and clothes from different cultures to sample and experience. All proceeds from this event will go to a national collaborative to raise money for children’s relief efforts worldwide as a part of the national Charity Week. The event is free, but donations are highly encouraged.
• Wednesday, Oct. 18, from noon to 2 p.m. — Charity Tabling in Thompson Student Union. To continue our fundraising efforts for Charity Week, we will be having a bake sale. Buy some treats and support a great cause.
The Office of Multicultural Student Success also has a list of national Muslim Heritage Month resources online as well as a site devoted to the campus celebrations of Muslim Heritage Month and all History and Heritage Months.
