Sherry Baker of Warsaw, Indiana was the recipient of the 3,000th kidney transplant performed at The University of Toledo Medical Center. Baker, who received her life-changing transplant on June 24, spoke at an event celebrating the milestone procedure Thursday, Oct. 19, at the Center for Alumni and Donor Engagement.

The invite-only event also featured leadership from the University and hospital, surgeons, nephrologists and others who support UTMC’s kidney transplant program, as well as a number of other kidney recipients and living donors.

UTMC’s transplant program has grown significantly over the past half-decade, going from 65 procedures in 2017 to a record 200 in 2022.

Through Oct. 11, UTMC has performed 159 transplants this year.
