Contract negotiations between ProMedica and Medical Mutual, the medical insurance provider for UToledo employees, are still underway. While no agreement has been reached yet, both parties have agreed to bring in a third-party organization to verify the accuracy of cost data being shared throughout the negotiation process. This move is intended to help ensure a transparent and fact-based dialogue as talks continue.
As part of its negotiation strategy, ProMedica has begun sending direct communications, such as digital media, advertisements and/or letters, to consumers, including Medical Mutual members. These messages are intended to encourage consumers to pressure Medical Mutual into finalizing an agreement and are not necessarily reflective of any imminent resolution.
If ProMedica and Medical Mutual are unable to reach an agreement, ProMedica providers and facilities will still be covered, but classified as Tier 3 under the UToledo medical plans effective Jan. 1, 2026.
UToledo Health providers and facilities will remain in Tier 1, offering the best value in terms of both quality of care and cost. Employees are encouraged to continue using UToledo Health for their healthcare needs to maximize plan benefits.
A full breakdown of coverage tiers and provider options can be found in the plan comparison chart.
Human Resources will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as more information becomes available. If you have questions about your medical coverage or provider options, please contact a benefits representative. Live chat and scheduled virtual appointments are available at utoledo.edu/open-enrollment.
For those who have not yet completed open enrollment for 2026 benefits, employees may select their 2026 benefits through Friday, Oct. 31.
