The Herb Innovation Center is hosting its second biannual THInC-3M research competition to highlight and celebrate the educational research of graduate and undergraduate students enrolled in the Judith Herb College of Education.

THInC-3M debuted in Spring 2021 and it is in conjunction with UToledo’s universitywide 3-Minute Thesis competition (3MT). The competition provides students with an opportunity to sharpen their research and communication skills by challenging them to present their scholarly work in three minutes or less.

In addition to the three-minute speaking portion of the competition, students are allowed to display one static slide with images and limited text to enhance the audience’s understanding of the research.

“Students competing in the THInC 3M Research Competition show so much energy when telling their research story that it makes me want to be a member of their research team,” said Dr. Michael Toland, executive director of The Herb Innovation Center.

Submissions are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, and the competition is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 13, at 5 p.m. in Gillham Hall Room 5300.

Competitors are given the choice to submit their work in one of two tracks: the early research track that mimics a proposed research project without results or conclusions identified and the late research track, which includes the results and conclusions of the research.

First- and second-place winners of both tracks will be announced at the end of the competition and monetary awards will be posted to their student accounts.

The top graduate-level winners will advance to the 3MT competition that is open to the entire graduate student body.
