The University of Toledo has joined forces with its southern rival, Bowling Green State University, to unveil a philanthropic initiative that promises to ignite school spirit and community support.

UToledo has joined forces with rival BGSU to unveil a new philanthropic initiative, The Battle of I-75 Giving Challenge.

How the challenge works:

•  Participants are encouraged to make a gift to their respective alma mater or favorite university.

•  Every contribution of $5 or more will contribute to the university’s tally.

•  The university with the most supporters at the end of the challenge will claim victory.

The giving challenge is set to run from midnight on Monday, Nov. 6, through noon on Tuesday, Nov. 14.

Rocket alumni, students, faculty and staff, supporters and friends are encouraged to participate to help UToledo win bragging rights as the most generous institution. The winner will be announced at the Battle of I-75 Football Game on Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. in BGSU’s Doyt L. Perry Stadium.

“The giving challenge is a great opportunity for us to work collaboratively with our colleagues to identify fun and innovative ways to support the success of our students and campuses,” said William Pierce, associate vice president of Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving at UToledo. “I look forward to Rocket Nation helping us win this inaugural challenge.”

This campaign presents a unique opportunity for supporters to give back to their respective institutions while joining in on the historic competition between the two institutions. It’s not just about school pride; it’s about making a difference for our students, programs and community.

“This challenge unites our two universities in a common goal: supporting our students,” said Heather Slough, UToledo’s senior director of Annual Giving Programs. “Rocket Nation is competitive when it comes to our historic rivalry, so we’re confident our campus community and network of alumni and donors will rise to the occasion with a gift to their favorite scholarship or fund. No matter which team emerges victorious on the football field, it’s clear that students are the ultimate winners in the Battle of I-75 Giving Challenge.”
