The University of Toledo Medical Center has been recognized by Epic Systems with a Good Install award and a Gold Star Level 8 for its implementation and effective use of the electronic medical record system.

Epic launched at UTMC in September 2022, a little less than two years after the University approved a contract with the company to modernize its electronic medical records system and improve the ability of patients to view and manage their own health information.

The Good Install program measures new users on a variety of metrics including training, engagement of clinicians and other users, project management and feature adoption.

In addition to the award, UTMC received a financial award of more than $400,000 that can be applied to future Epic invoices.

The Gold Star program evaluates how well Epic has been deployed and utilized at the one-year mark after implementation. UTMC’s Level 8 award places it in the top 35% of all Epic users.

“Our transition to Epic was an extremely important undertaking for UTMC and the entire clinical enterprise,” said Dr. Bill McCreary, vice president and chief information and chief technology officer. “The scale of this project was immense, and these awards represent objective measures of our successful implementation. There are hundreds of people who were directly involved in this, and it’s a point of pride for the entire UToledo family.”

Epic offers hospital staff and physicians a singular chart to follow patients throughout multiple areas where they receive care at UToledo, including inpatient care, physician clinics, laboratories, radiology locations and other ambulatory facilities.

Epic also presents patients with an easy and convenient method to manage health information for themselves and their families with MyChart.

More than 250 health systems nationwide use Epic’s electronic medical record system.
