A Toledo-area organization called the New Works Writers Series will premiere the short film “Toledo Panthers on the Prowl” Tuesday, Nov. 16, at The University of Toledo.
A discussion, which will include UToledo Africana Studies Department Director Angela Siner, will follow the film and draw comparisons between the Panthers’ vision of social justice and the methods of Black Lives Matter activists today.
The event co-sponsored by the Black Student Union from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Thompson Student Union Ingman Room is free and open to the public.
“Toledo Panthers on the Prowl” is an original short film performed by poet and actor Huntor Prey. Based on events leading to the local chapter’s police raid, the monologue incorporates drama, music and history.
Prey, Dr. Imelda Hunt, founder and artistic director of the New Works Writers Series, and John Scott, a playwright and director in Toledo, will also participate in the conversation.
