The University of Toledo Division of Student Affairs has partnered with AT&T to bring a texting and driving simulator to the Student Union Trimble Lounge Monday, Nov. 16.

Students are encouraged to stop by the free event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to learn the dangers of texting while driving with the AT&T It Can Wait simulator.

AT&T Driving SimulatorIn 2011, at least 23 percent of auto accidents involved cell phones; that’s 1.3 million crashes, according to textingthumbbands.com.

AT&T and the Office of Student Experience will have safe driving pledges for student participants to sign. The Division of Student Affairs will hand out thumb bands and business card pledges, and AT&T will give away items and have a banner that students can sign.

“The Division of Student Affairs encourages all students to pay attention to the road while driving — wait to send that text; it is not worth losing a life,” said Stephen Moore, a graduate assistant who works in the Division of Student Affairs and helped plan the event.
