All faculty, staff and retirees are encouraged to participate in the University’s annual charitable campaign, UToledo Cares 2021, which runs through Tuesday, Nov. 30, if they haven’t done so already.

Contributions to the campaign benefit four federations — United Way of Greater Toledo, Community Health Charities, EarthShare Ohio and Northwest Ohio Community Shares — which together represent more than 200 nonprofit organizations throughout the greater Toledo area.

The 2021 campaign co-chairs are Rick Swaine, chief executive officer at The University of Toledo Medical Center, and Dr. Heidi Appel, dean of Jesup Scott Honors College at The University of Toledo.

“I give to the UToledo Cares Campaign as a way to give back,” Swaine said. “I’ve been fortunate in my personal and professional life to be blessed with good health and gainful employment. I now wish to share with those who truly need help so as to improve their well-being and provide a path forward in their lives.”

“I give to UToledo Cares each year because there is so much need in our community and I can target my gift to support urban food programs and environmental protection,” Appel said.

Donations of any size are appreciated and can be made through UToledo Cares 2021 emails that contain a link to your e-pledge form. If you did not receive an email, please contact Olivia Barhorst, United Way Toledo Development Officer, at Olivia.barhorst@unitedwaytoledo.org.

Once you submit your completed pledge, you will no longer receive emails requesting support for the UToledo Cares campaign.

Those who donate by Tuesday, Nov. 30, will receive a complimentary T-shirt as a gift, plus an invitation to a breakfast buffet hosted by UToledo President Gregory Postel in early 2022.

All gifts are tax-deductible, and a variety of payment options are available, including payroll deduction, which does not begin until early 2022.
