The University of Toledo outpatient pharmacies have updated COVID-19 vaccines available for faculty, staff and students on both Main and Health Science campuses.

Individuals are eligible to receive the shot if it has been at least two months since they received a prior COVID-19 vaccine, or at least three months since a COVID-19 infection.

COVID-19 vaccines are available without an appointment at the UTMC Medical Pavilion pharmacy on Tuesdays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to noon, on Thursdays from 2 to 6 p.m. and on Fridays from 8 a.m. to noon.

On Main Campus, vaccines will be available by appointment only from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at the Main Campus pharmacy. Faculty, staff and students can make an appointment by calling 530.3471.

“It’s a good thing to consider,” said Dr. Derek Dryfuse, a clinical pharmacist at The University of Toledo Medical Center. “With the holidays coming up, vaccination is a great tool we have available to protect ourselves and our friends and family. It’s something that’s important as people will be gathering, where viruses are more likely to be spread.”

The vaccine that’s available now has been formulated to target COVID-19 variants that are currently circulating.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone age 5 and older get one dose of the updated COVID-19 vaccine to protect against serious illness.

Dryfuse said it takes roughly two weeks for someone to develop full protection against COVID-19 after receiving their vaccine.

Because the cost of COVID-19 vaccination is no longer being covered by the federal government, an individual’s insurance will be billed for the shot; however, individuals should not have any out-of-pocket costs.
