In less than four years, Gabriella Asche grew from a follower into a leader — and she has her UToledo experience to thank for the new skill set.

The third-year marketing student from Olmsted Falls joined numerous student organizations the moment she could, combining her creative side with her interest in creating change in her community.

Asche is finishing her term as president of Alpha Phi Omega, a co-ed service fraternity, and served as the organization’s vice president of service and helped with marketing. She’s also a member of the co-ed business fraternity Pi Sigma Epsilon, Pi Beta Phi, KLAR Leadership Academy and a student worker in the Business Career Programs office with the John B. and Lillian E. Neff College of Business and Innovation.

It’s safe to say that her weeks are busy, but Asche has always been eager to spend her time helping others.

“I feel like the best way to do that is to be on the executive board,” Asche said. “Leadership skills are transferrable in any aspect of life … it’s important to implement those skills to effectively make an individual role, company or relationship better.”

Asche has leaders in her life who not only serve as supervisors but as mentors. Craig Turner and Alison DeVolder in the Business Career Programs office encouraged Asche to reach for any experience that expands beyond her professional skills and helps guide her as an individual.

“They genuinely care about me and want the best for me,” Asche said.

Turner credits Asche for elevating the awareness of the Business Career Programs, utilizing social media to reach fellow students.

“She is a forward thinker, always bringing new ideas and offering effective suggestions that have been effective,” Turner said. “Gabby is beyond her years and very savvy with marketing. Her future employer, whoever it may be, will be very fortunate to hire her.”

After Asche graduates in December 2022, she’s looking forward to taking her creativity and leadership skills to a marketing agency that is innovative and, ultimately, makes her happy.
