In 2020, “Critical Business Skills for Success,” a five-part audiobook co-authored by UToledo Distinguished Professor Dr. Clinton Longenecker, has outsold J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series and Malcolm Gladwell’sTalking to Strangers” to reach No. 27 on Newsweek’s recent list of bestselling audiobooks in America.

“This project and subsequent recognition has been a real validation for the work we do in the College of Business and Innovation at The University of Toledo in helping people achieve their life goals, professional ambitions and career trajectory,” Longenecker said. “This has been a real blessing for sure. And I have to admit that it is very cool to be sandwiched between the late Alex Trebek’s ‘The Answer is… ’ at No. 26 and P. Diddy’s ‘Honor Yourself’ at No. 28 on Newsweek’s bestselling audiobook ranking.”

Co-written by a quartet of nationally recognized business educators from highly ranked business schools, “Critical Business Skills for Success” is a practical business toolkit, Longenecker said, for people interested in acquiring and honing their business acumen in five primary areas: Organizational behavior/leadership, strategy, marketing, finance and accounting, and operations.

“People have taken to calling this series a ‘very quick’ MBA, which has been a primary factor in driving sales,” said Longenecker, who has been a business professor at UT for the past 36 years and is the author of three other best-selling business books. He serves as director of the Klar Leadership Academy and Advanced Leadership Academy in the College of Business and Innovation.

“Not a week goes by where I don’t get a text, tweet or an email from a reader or listener with a question or some very positive feedback on their experience with the series which is very satisfying.”

Each of the five authors recorded a dozen 32-minute segments in front of the cameras, with the end product internationally released by The Great Courses as both a video series and as an audiobook in April 2015.
