The Department of Geography and Planning co-hosted the 2023 meeting of the East Lakes Division, American Association of Geographers (AAG), Nov. 16 and 17 at the Maumee Bay Resort and Conference Center.
There were 129 attendees, including 94 students representing 24 geography programs from colleges in Ohio and Michigan giving over 80 presentations. The Department had 16 participants, with three students winning presentation awards out of 12 total judged student awards, among the most of any school.
The winning UToledo students:
• Juthi Mitra, first place Ph.D. presentation;
• Esther Amoako, second place Ph.D. poster; and
• Jacob Davison, second place undergraduate presentation.
The department has hosted this annual meeting four times since 2000, and has been an active participant every year with among the most attendees, and frequently securing awards for their student presentations from undergraduate and graduate programs including the SISS Ph.D. program. The AAG is the premier professional organization for geography with more than 10,000 members from countries all over the world.
