Repairs under way to address structural issues identified in the East Parking Ramp and West Parking Ramp are expected to be complete by Sunday, Jan. 5.

All levels of both the East Parking Ramp and West Parking Ramp are slated to be open by Monday, Jan. 6, which is the first day of classes in spring semester.

The repairs will require closing the parking garages for portions of the holiday break.

The East Parking Ramp will be closed from Monday, Dec. 16, to Sunday, Jan. 5.

The West Parking Ramp will be closed from Saturday, Dec. 21, through Wednesday, Dec. 25.

Portions of both parking garages have been closed since September, when contractors conducting inspections as part of scheduled maintenance and repair work discovered the need for emergency repairs.

Temporary emergency measures were implemented immediately and resulted in partial closures.

The current repairs will address the underlying problems and are long-term solutions that will allow the garages to return to full use, according do Daniel Klett, university architect in Facilities and Construction Planning.

The temporary parking lots, which the University constructed in response to the closures within the garages, are scheduled to close Wednesday, Jan. 1.

These gravel lots were not designed for year-round use, Klett said, adding they cannot be maintained in winter’s inclement weather as required to ensure the safety of those using the lots.

These temporary lots are Parking Area 13E on the former site of Dowd, Nash and White halls; Parking Area 19W between Douglas Road and Westwood Avenue, north of Oakwood Avenue; and Parking Area 20N on Westwood Avenue opposite Palmer Hall.
