 Avani Enterprizes, a startup firm founded by Dr. Sridhar Viamajala, a professor in the Department of Bioengineering, to create sustainable technologies for recycling waste polypropylene, took the top prize Thursday at the UToledo Business Incubator’s Tech419 Pitch Competition.

The National Science Foundation awarded UToledo, in collaboration with Toledo Public Schools, Owens Community College and Dana Inc., nearly $1 million to support an extracurricular mechatronics club for students at Toledo Public Schools.
