Open scrimmage set for men’s hoops Oct. 15

Fans and alumni have the opportunity to see the Toledo men’s basketball team in action Saturday, Oct. 15, from noon to 1:30 p.m. as part of an open scrimmage in Savage Arena prior to the Rockets’ football game at 3:30 p.m. vs. Bowling Green.

Toledo’s 2016-17 campaign gets underway Saturday, Nov. 5, with an exhibition game versus Ohio Dominican at 2:30 p.m.

mens b-ball scrimmageUT will open its regular season at 2016 NCAA Tournament squad Saint Joseph’s Saturday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. The Rockets’ home opener comes three days later against Youngstown State Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 8 p.m. in the second game of a doubleheader. UT’s women will host Rhode Island that same evening at 5:30 p.m.

Toledo has posted five straight winning seasons under Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk, and the Rockets’ 64 overall victories over the past three seasons rank second among Mid-American Conference men’s basketball programs.

The Rockets are returning three starters this season with senior guard Jonathan Williams leading the way after ranking third in the MAC with 17.6 points per game. Williams will be joined by classmates Zach Garber (6.0 points per game, 4.8 rebounds per game), Jordan Lauf (4.6 points per game, 3.8 rebounds per game) and Steve Taylor Jr. (sat out 2015-16 after transferring from Marquette). UT also will have a pair of sophomores, Nate Navigato (8.4 points per game, 3.4 rebounds per game) and Jaelan Sanford (8.2 points per game, 2.0 rebounds per game), who were key contributors last season.
