Dr. S. Amjad Hussain, professor emeritus of cardiovascular surgery and humanities, will discuss his 2017 China expedition to retrace a great historical highway in a lecture titled “In Search of the Silk Road,” Wednesday, March 29, at the Main Library in downtown Toledo.

Beginning at 6 p.m., the free, public event is hosted by the Roger Ray Institute for the Humanities in the UToledo College of Arts and Letters.

Hussain was part of a seven-member expedition to explore the ancient Silk Road in China. The Silk Road was a 4,000-mile-long caravan road that connected China with Europe for 1,700 years beginning in 200 B.C.E. On that ancient highway and its many branches, religions, cultures, art and music mingled and flourished. In addition, the highway was a conduit for the spread of diseases.
