The Office of Multicultural Student Success, the Catharine S. Eberly Center for Women, and the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies will host the LGBTQ Issues Conference Friday, April 12.

The LGBTQ Issues Conference will be held at 11:30 a.m. in the Thompson Student Union. The conference will include a welcome luncheon, student research presentations, and a keynote address by Dr. Jared Rose, assistant professor in the Bowling Green State University College of Education and Human Development.

A UToledo alumnus, Rose is a clinical mental health provider, author and presenter. He is an elected board member for Advocating Opportunity, which focuses on wellness and recovery for those victimized by human trafficking. He provides pro-bono services for HIV+ men at The University of Toledo Medical Center and HIV-testing initiatives throughout Ohio.

Rose will speak on the critical importance of social justice and advocacy for the LGBTQA+ community. He will share his journey to social justice and advocacy work, and important key elements for advocates, with particular focus on LGBQ+, trans, and ally people. Levels of advocacy consideration, personal appraisal, and the effect each of us can have on those around us will all be discussed.

Admission to the 2019 LGBTQ Issues Conference will be free for all student presenters and all UToledo students. Admission for UToledo employees and community members is $20. Visit the Office of Multicultural Student Success website to register.
