The College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is hosting a three-day virtual camp Wednesday, June 21, through Friday, June 23, for high school students who wish to learn how makeup and personal care products are made.

Created and led by Dr. Gabriella Baki, director of the Cosmetic Science and Formulation Design Program and associate professor of pharmaceutics in the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, the 2023 Cosmetic Science and Formulation Design Virtual Summer Camp will feature presentations from L’Oreal and MANA Products among several others.

The College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is hosting a three-day virtual camp June 21 through June 23 for high school students who wish to learn how makeup and personal care products are made.

Each participant will receive a camp box that will include supplies and samples used in interactive and hands-on sessions during the camp and a camp T-shirt. Games also will be incorporated throughout the duration of the camp for a chance to win prizes.

“After two successful camps, we are very excited to organize the third annual virtual Beauty of Science summer camp,” Baki said. “We had close to 100 registrants representing over 70 US cities each year in the past two years. In 2022, we expanded our camp to three days and had 16 presenting sponsors (more than double from 2021) with over a dozen donating sponsors and supporting sponsors.

Because of the Beauty of Science summer camp’s popularity, more students can register to attend, she said.

“Registration for the 2023 camp is already underway, and the number of participants has skyrocketed in the first few weeks,” Baki said. “To meet the demand, we were able to expand the camp size and are accepting a limited number of additional students.

“If you are interested, please register now.”

The camp is reserved for students actively enrolled in high school entering their 10th-, 11th- or 12th-grade years, and college students entering their freshman year in fall 2023 who live in the United States or Canada.

Camp registration is open now and is first-come, first-serve, with limited space remaining. The camp registration fee is $100 per camper, with a limited amount of financial need scholarships available.
