Professors and published authors at The University of Toledo will discuss white supremacy and Indigenous matriarchal traditions today (Wednesday, March 29) as part of the Featuring Feminist Faculty Lecture Series hosted by the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies.
The free, public event is from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, in Carlson Library Room 1005 and via WebEx.
Dr. Barbara Mann, a professor of humanities in Jesup Scott Honors College and a scholar of Indigenous American culture, will speak about her book, “The Woman Who Married the Bear: The Spirituality of the Ancient Foremothers,” and Indigenous instructions for respectful relations between human and non-human nature.
Dr. Lisa Pescara-Kovach, a professor of educational psychology and author of “White Supremacist Violence: Understanding the Resurgence and Stopping the Spread,” is giving a talk titled “White Supremacy—The Greatest Threat to Our Safety.” To help stop the spread of the hate movement, she will give tools to assess the likelihood of an individual being recruited into domestic terrorism.
The event includes light refreshments.
