The University of Toledo is celebrating Jewish Heritage Month this April with several events for the University community. The events have been organized by Hillel419, the center for Jewish student life at UToledo and BGSU, and aim to explore Jewish culture and combat antisemitism.
• Tuesday, April 11, 6 p.m. – Chocolate Seder at the Hillel House, 2012 Brookdale Drive, Toledo. Come experience an introductory-level Passover seder filled with delicious chocolate treats.
• Friday, April 14, 5:30 p.m. – Jewish Women in History Shabbat at the Hillel House. Join us for a Shabbat dinner and learn about influential Jewish women throughout history.
• Sunday, April 16, 3 p.m. – “Power of the Human Spirit: A Discussion with Irene Miller” in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union at BGSU. Irene Miller, a Holocaust survivor, author, speaker and educator, will take you on a journey of survival journey in which little has been written or is known about. You will sleep in the winter under an open sky on no man’s land; you will freeze in a Siberian labor camp where the bears come to your door front. In Uzbekistan, you will live on boiled grass or broiled onions, and shiver with malaria. You will spend years in orphanages. When this is over you will wonder how a child with this background grows up to become a positive, creative and accomplished woman with a joy of living and love to share. It is a story of courage, determination, perseverance and the power of the human spirit.
• Wednesday, April 19, from 1 to 3 p.m. – Graffiti T-Shirt Event with Artists 4 Israel in Centennial Mall. Graffiti Artists will be customizing free T-shirts. Artists 4 Israel prevents the spread of anti-Israel bigotry through art and helps communities and people affected by terrorism and hate.
• Tuesday, April 25, 6 p.m. – Project Linus at the Hillel House. Help make blankets for children in need in the Toledo Area. No experience is required.
• Wednesday, April 26, from noon to 2 p.m. — “Pledge to End Antisemitism” in Thompson Student Union Trimble Lounge. Join the UToledo community in its effort to end antisemitism. Enjoy a bagel while learning more about antisemitism, Hillel, Holocaust Remembrance Day and Jewish culture. This event is in collaboration with the Office of Multicultural Student Success.
