The CommunityCare Clinics will hold its ninth annual golf tournament Saturday, July 29, at 1:30 p.m. at Heatherdowns Country Club, 3910 Heatherdowns Blvd. Registration will begin at 12:30 p.m.

One hundred percent of the proceeds from the tournament go toward direct patient care at all sites run by CommunityCare Clinics. As a free clinic, every dollar counts. One dollar donated to the CommunityCare Clinics provides $81 in patient care value.

The CommunityCare Clinics will hold its ninth annual golf tournament Saturday, July 29, at 1:30 p.m. at Heatherdowns Country Club, 3910 Heatherdowns Blvd.

The ComunityCare free medical clinic is run by University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences students in collaboration with local medical professionals and directed by internal medicine physician, Dr. Richard Paat.

CommunityCare Clinics have been providing comprehensive primary care services to Toledo’s uninsured and medically underserved community for more than a decade. In the last 12 months, the clinics have provided care to more than 4,000 patients through 1,600-plus volunteer hours.

“The golf outing is a big opportunity for us so we’re very excited,” said Sarah Bon, a second-year medical student and director of public relations and outreach for the clinics. “We run two to four clinics each week, and we work tirelessly to meet the needs of our community members who may otherwise fall through the cracks of healthcare.”

Bon added, “Our patients are mostly the underserved and underinsured population of Toledo. Many come to us describing situations of losing their employment, or their car or another extenuating circumstance that has made it harder to address their health. With that in mind, it is important to us that we provide free medical services to whoever walks in our doors. Because of this, we must work hard to raise the money to provide medications and services for our patients.”

The cost of the golf tournament is $80 for a player and $320 for a team. If you are not a golfer, you can still attend and cheer on our players while participating in raffles or games. The tournament will be run as a scramble with teams of four. Casual, golf course attire is recommended, as well as nonmetal spikes. Clubs will be available for rent for those who do not own a personal set ($15 per person).

The group also is seeking community, corporate and personal sponsors at a variety of levels for monetary and physical item donations. Please email Sarah Bon at sarah.bon@rockets.utoledo.edu for more information on sponsorship opportunities.

The clinic has experienced many changes over the past few years and has continued to grow through every circumstance. That would not have been possible without the Toledo community.

“The support of the Toledo community is essential to our work at CCC,” said second-year medical student and executive director of the CommunityCare Clinics, Tatiana White. “We really appreciate the support from individuals and businesses participating in this event in any capacity.”

The deadline to register is Thursday, July 20. Go to the CommunityCare Clinics Golf Tournament website and fill out the RSVP form located at the bottom of the webpage.
