Family Weekend, the three-day annual campus visit that brings together UToledo students and their parents and families, returns this Friday, Sept. 8, through Sunday, Sept. 10, with a wide range of events and activities.
Family Weekend begins Friday with registration and the Big Gay Welcome! from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Student Union Ingman Room and Centennial Mall respectively.
Other activities available for families on Friday include a trolley tour of Toledo-area pizza restaurants with Slices of Toledo from 6 to 10:30 p.m. starting at Savage Arena; “SNL” comedian Colin Jost at 7:30 p.m. in Savage Arena; and a nostalgic roller-skating experience at Rocket Roll Bounce, 6 to 9 p.m. at Ohio Skate, 5735 Opportunity Drive.
Activities for Saturday, Sept. 9, activities include morning yoga, a movie night and the Toledo Rockets’ football game against Texas Southern Tigers. The tailgate will take place from noon to 3 p.m. in the Flatlands (the Thompson Student Union will serve as the event’s back-up location in event of rain) with live music, free food, a visit from President Gregory Postel and an opportunity to meet Rocky and Rocksy. The football game kicks off at 3:30 p.m. in Glass Bowl Stadium.
The weekend continues on Sunday, Sept. 10, with the Toledo Rocket’s soccer team taking on the Oakland Golden Grizzlies at 1 p.m. in Paul Hotmer Field.
The Rocket community also will receive shopping discounts during Family Weekend.
The JCPenney Suit-Up runs from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at JCPenney at Franklin Park Mall, 5001 Monroe St., with UToledo students, alumni, faculty and staff receiving 30% off purchases including suits, dresses, sports coats, dress pants, shoes and accessories.
And the Rocket Bookstore and Barnes & Noble at Gateway will offer UToledo family members and parents as well as students, alumni, faculty and staff a 25% discount to purchase clothing with a discount coupon available at registration through Family Weekend.
