University Counseling Center to Host Mental Health Matters Week Oct. 23-27

The University Counseling Center is sponsoring and participating in a Mental Health Matters Week with events and activities scheduled from Monday, Oct. 23, through Friday, Oct. 27.

Located in the University Health Center, the University Counseling Center offers students free and confidential services including individual and group counseling, mental health and awareness programming and crisis intervention services.

Events include:

•  Monday, Oct 23, from 1 to 3 p.m. The University Counseling Center hosts the YWCA Sexual assault domestic violence advocacy tabling in Thompson Student Union.

•  Monday, Oct 23, from 1 to 2 p.m. An online Mental Health 101 workshop to provide students with a foundation to manage their mental health as well as coping tools for a wide array o mental health symptoms, and information on how to get in touch with the University Counseling Center as well as emergency resources.

•  Monday, Oct. 23, beginning at 7 p.m. The University of Toledo Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Committee is hosting “Other Ways Out: Considering Diversion and Recovery in College” in Thompson Student Union Ingman Room with discussions on addressing substance use.

•  Tuesday, Oct. 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. The University Counseling Center hosts a Mix and Mingle for Survivors of Sexual Assault in conjunction with support from the YWCA at the University Counseling Center.

•  Wednesday, Oct. 25, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. A Mental Health Screening Day in Parks Tower Café. Take a mental health screening, speak with a therapist regarding your results, schedule an appointment, check out local resources and engage in healthy coping techniques.

•  Thursday, Oct. 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. An essential oil making station in Carlson Library Room 1005.

•  Friday, Oct. 27, from 11 a.m. to noon. A Virtual Self Esteem Workshop to provide students reflection and discussion opportunities to address unhelpful thinking patterns and cognitive distortions.

•  Friday, Oct. 27, from 3 to 4 p.m. Virtual Positive Psychology Workshop to provide insight into specific domains that make up a person’s well-being and ability to thrive.
