The University of Toledo will kick off the fall semester with Rocket Welcome Weekend, four days of on-campus events and activities running Thursday, Aug. 21, through Sunday, Aug. 24.
Students begin moving into residence halls on Thursday, Aug. 21, and Friday, Aug. 22, ahead of the first day of classes on Monday, Aug. 25. President James Holloway will be on hand to greet students during move-in at Parks Tower from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday. That evening, from 7 to 10 p.m., the Flatlands will come alive with a bonfire, music, yard games and s’mores.
The high-energy tradition of Rocky’s Welcome, scheduled from 3:15 to 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 22 in Savage Arena, is one of several events happening during Rocket Welcome Weekend.
Friday’s schedule includes the Class of 2029 Cookout from noon to 1 p.m. at the Flatlands, followed by the high-energy tradition of Rocky’s Welcome from 3:15 to 4:30 p.m. in Savage Arena. This event introduces first-year, transfer and adult students to campus leaders, traditions and Rocket pride. Later that day, students can enjoy the CAP Carnival from 5 to 8 p.m. at Carter Field with rides, games and food, and then head to Night at the Rec from 8 to 10 p.m. at the Student Recreation Center.
“We’re excited to welcome our newest Rockets as they begin this exciting chapter,” said Alex Zernechel, director of Student Engagement and Campus Events.
“Through a variety of events and activities, we want them to feel at home, connect with their peers and experience the energy of Rocket Nation.”
On Saturday, Aug. 24, the weekend continues with Flicks on the Field from 8 to 10 p.m. at the Glass Bowl.

Friday, Aug. 22:
Academic Adventure – various Main Campus locations, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. An opportunity for incoming students to engage with their college before the start of the academic year.
Commuter Student Gathering – Centennial Mall, from 11 a.m. to noon. Incoming commuter students can meet other students living off campus and participate in crafts.
Rocky and Rocksy’s Meet Up – Glass Bowl, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. A fun and interactive event filled with icebreakers and conversation, where new students can learn more about their peers.
Class of 2029 group photo – Glass Bowl, from 2:30 to 3 p.m.
Sunday, Aug. 24:
Jam Session – Centennial Mall steps, from 6 to 9 p.m. An annual event hosted by the National Pan-Hellenic Council where strolls are performed by the Divine 9 fraternity and sororities.
Monday, Aug. 25:
Sundae on a Monday – Centennial Mall, from noon to 2 p.m. An annual treat for all Rockets.
Wednesday, Aug. 27:
Campus Involvement Fair – Centennial Mall, from noon to 3 p.m. An opportunity for students to explore what UToledo and the city of Toledo have to offer, the annual event will include sign-ups for various community organizations, performances from student groups, music from WXUT and food trucks.
Thursday, Aug. 28:
Club Carlson — A fun kickoff event for Carlson Library where students can explore the library’s spaces and services while enjoying free T-shirts, swag, food, games and prizes.
